
This course designed as an entry point into contemporary conceptual debates and critical approaches related to global citizenship education. This course engages learners in a critical examination of case studies of educational practices and conceptual debates related to notions of knowledge and forms of belonging; identity construction, globalization, culture, interdependence, indigeneity, nationalism, cosmopolitanism, cross-cultural dialogue, social action, and the roles of education in contemporary societies. The course is divided into three different sections,
Part A (Week 1): introduction
Part B (Weeks 2/3/4): power and privilege (a central question in debates about global citizenship)
Part C (Weeks 5/6/7): the general academic debate (week 8 should be used to finalize assignment preparation)
Assessment on the course is based on participation, 3 learning journals and one final essay
