The course covers a broad range of issues including i) the concepts of market failure, externalities, public goods, and property rights, ii) the economic principles cost benefit analysis and environmental valuation, iii) the economic principles of pollution control and policy instruments (e.g., carbon trading, Pigouvian taxes, command-and-control, institutional approaches) to attain environmental targets, iv) an economic analysis of energy systems, incentives, and regulation for sustainable energy system, v) the role of consumers in demand response solutions, and vi) the fundamentals of socially and environmentally responsible investing, emphasizing the incorporation of social and environmental factors in investment decisions.
