“Human beings are magical. Bios and Logos. Words made flesh, muscle and bone animated by hope and desire, belief materialized in deeds, deeds which crystallize our actualities […] And the maps of spring always have to be redrawn again, in undared forms.” ~Sylvia Wynter

“For the master’s tools will never dismantle the master’s house. They may allow us to temporarily beat him at his own game, but they will never enable us to bring about genuine change.” ~Audre Lorde

This course explores and evaluates traditional, experimental, and decolonial methods of learning as we engage themes of intersectional, transnational, and decolonial feminism. Course assignments will be framed according to a variety of options designed to give participants choices in how to engage the learning process, including standard academic readings, readings from contemporary culture, film and documentary viewings, reflective practice, arts-based practice, embodied practice, and activities in collaborative creation. (Students will be able to choose between the standard modes identified in the course description, and more decolonially-oriented options offered as alternatives for engagement in the course.) Course members will also have the opportunity to choose if they wish to participate in an action research project that explores the impact of decolonial educational practice on individual and collective learning experiences.
