This course offers students practical experience in organizing a global academic conference while also introducing students to topics of public communication, academic engagement, and transdisciplinary environmental studies. The primary form of engagement for students is through a volunteering experience at the World Congress of Environmental History, held in August 2024 in Oulu. The course offers practical knowledge on the basics of organization, communication, and logistical arrangements of a large international conference. At the same time, students are also introduced to research questions about environmental change and biodiversity loss through pre-conference lectures, self-study materials, and the conference programme. The working language of the conference and the course is English but written work returned to teachers can also be submitted in Finnish.
