
The course extends the student’s knowledge of urban and regional resilience and skills in working with theories and concepts. Through scientific readings and learning assignments, the student examines the key concept and theories of urban and regional resilience, and their application in geography, within context of urban and regional development and politics.
The learning activities are designed so that they first familiarize the student with different resilience theories and then the student can deepen his/her understanding about a specific research field and theoretical framework. Possible fields of research include but are not limited to; evolutionary economic geography, shrinking regions, urban planning, green urban resilience, cross-border resilience, resilience politics, and resilience as governance.
The emphasis of the course is on developing students’ theoretical understanding and knowledge as well as the ability to interpret social and spatial processes through different theories and concepts.
