To become and to be a successful scientist is not just a matter of excellent research ideas, impressive field and lab work and high quality data but is also a function of how to communicate and write about the work. In this course, students will learn practical tools for scientific writing. These tools encompass concrete examples about how to organize text structure, how to maintain good text flow and secure understandable wording. As a basis in this course, we will use a book “Writing science – how to write papers that get cited and proposals that get funded by Joshua Schimel” and already published scientific articles that we use as examples. Depending on the interests of participants, the course can e.g. also include a brief introduction about ethics in science or a reading club. The course is suitable for all students who are writing their master’s thesis and/or are motivated to continue in the field of science or science communication.

This course is primarily organized as an online course that consists of eleven (11) 2 h meetings that include lectures, discussions and independent writing.
