We will look at how literature reproduces or models the rhythms of our everyday engagements with our environments through the lens of contemporary cognitive literary theory. Special attention is placed on the ways feelings and emotions affect this process. The course delves into theories that combine time and space with rhythmicity.
Learning outcomes:
Upon completion of the course, students will be:
- Familiar with a selection of theories discussing issues of time, space, and affect, as well as cognitive literary theories related to these.
- Able to analyze various literary rhythmicities in literature.
