The course is planned for third year students. It gives an overview of modern behavioural ecology, with the emphasis on animal sociality and interactions within and between species. The topics include sexual selection, sexuality, parental care, co-operation and cognition. In addition, the lectures cover species interaction, such as predation and predation avoidance. Further examples on applied animal behaviour research and ethology are provided. Participation in lectures, group work and seminars is compulsory. Short written homework (in English or Finnish) is required from 2/3 of the lectures. Taking the final exam is optional. The course is lectured in English.
