The course is an introduction to Nordic literature. Students will be familiarized with a selection of works by prominent authors from the Nordic region (Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Sápmi, Greenland) and will gain a general understanding of Nordic literature from the late 19th century to the 21st century. A selection of texts by famous Nordic authors will be discussed against the background of literary, historical, and societal contexts from national, Nordic, and transnational perspectives. The course consists of lectures and seminar work, emphasizing discussion, analysis, and active student participation.
