The course provides students skills to leverage scientific work with engineering applications. Students learn to replicate scientific experiments and to evaluate the quality of the results. Topics of the course include state-of-the-art and classic work, particularly in the area of software and system security topics. The course is completed individually by submitting reports to three assignments: 1) evaluating the factual background of a malware news article, 2) replicating an experiment from a New York Times article, and 3) replicating an experiment from a research paper.
