Epistemology is the branch of philosophy centered around questions related to knowledge: What do we know? Can we actually know anything at all? Why do we think that knowledge is valuable? What does “knowledge” even mean? The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to some of the most widely discussed topics in contemporary, anglophone epistemology. This will include (i)analysis and theories of knowledge, (ii) epistemological skepticism and anti-skeptical strategies, (iii) epistemic justification and understanding, (iv) naturalized epistemology and epistemological method, and (v) testimony and social epistemology. As this is an introductory course, no prior instruction in these topics is assumed.
